Garnet Shuts out Black to Take a 3-2 Series Lead
Julian Bosnic struck out seven and Brandon Fields hit a three-run home run for Garnet.
COLUMBIA – The Garnet team scored four runs in both the first and second innings to defeat the Black team, 8-0, in game five of the Garnet and Black World Series Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 4) at Founders Park. The Garnet team now has a 3-2 lead in the overall series.
Julian Bosnic earned the win on the mound for Garnet, striking out seven in five innings of work. He did not allow a hit and walked three to earn the victory. CJ Weins pitched the final frame for Garnet, striking out a pair in an inning of work. Andrew Peters was tagged with the loss for Black, allowing three earned runs with three strikeouts, four hits and four walks in 1.1 innings. Cade Austin came on in relief and struck out seven in 3.2 innings.
Brandon Fields hit his third home run of the series in the third. He scored three times and drove in three with the blast. Colin Burgess had two hits and David Mendham drove in three for the Garnet team. Michael Robinson had the lone hit for the Black team.
Game six of the Garnet and Black World Series will take place Thursday afternoon (Nov. 5) at 5 p.m.
