Thomson Named SEC Co-Newcomer of the Week

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis returning freshman Connor Thomson was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week alongside Nikola Slavic of No. 19 Ole Miss. It marks his second career weekly recognition from the conference.

In singles, Thomson is on a current three-match win streak, with a 4-1 record in SEC play. His straight-sets win in the match against then-No. 3 Tennessee brought in the only point for the Gamecocks. Thomson also clinched the match for the Gamecocks in the upset against then-No. 14 Georgia after defeating No. 18 Philip Henning in three sets for the highest ranked win of his career.

In doubles, Thomson faced his second-highest ranked opponent with teammate Daniel Rodrigues in No. 8 Trent Bryde and Tyler Zink of Georgia at the top of the lineup. The duo were 5-4 when the match went unfinished.

The No. 14 Gamecocks continue SEC play on the road this weekend when they face No. 24 Mississippi State on Fri., Mar. 12, at 4 p.m. ET and No. 19 Ole Miss on Sun., Mar. 14, at 2 p.m. ET.
