Go and Kirner Earn SEC Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.  –  South Carolina senior Lois Kaye Go has been named SEC Golfer of the Week, and freshman Paula Kirner has earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after their performances at the Gamecock Intercollegiate, SEC officials announced Wednesday.

Go notched her best finish as a Gamecock, taking second with a 4-under 212 at the Gamecock Intercollegiate on March 1-3. The senior shot back-to-back rounds of 3-under 69 to open the tournament, remaining near the top of the leaderboard throughout the tournament. Go’s finish marked her seventh top-5 finish as a Gamecock, tying her for seventh in program history.

Kirner had her best showing in the Garnet and Black thus far, carding a 2-under 70 in the opening round and finishing with an even par 72 in the final round to secure a 20th place finish at the Gamecock Intercollegiate. Her second round at the tournament started out rough, but she found her groove from the previous day late in the second round, sinking birdies on two of her final four holes.

“I’m proud of both LK and Paula for their well-deserved accolades,” head coach Kalen Anderson said. “Each woman stepped up with excellent performances last week at the Gamecock Intercollegiate.”

Next up for the No. 3 Gamecocks is a trip to Augusta, Ga. for the Valspar Augusta Invitational on March 13-14.
