Gamecocks Sweep Midweek Doubleheader

Kenzi Maguire finishes the day 7-for-8 with four runs and five RBI; two doubles

COLUMBIA, S.C. —- South Carolina softball swept a pair of games over Charleston Southern on Wednesday night at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. Carolina took the first game 9-2 before closing the night with a commanding 8-0 run-rule win in five innings.
 
Kenzi Maguire shined at the plate, going a combined 7-for-8 with four runs scored and five RBI. Jordan Fabian finished 5-for-7 with a run and three RBI while Mackenzie Boesel was 4-for-8 with three runs and four RBI.
 
Bailey Betenbaugh and Kelsey Oh earned the two wins in the circle.
 
SOUTH CAROLINA 9 | CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 2 – RECAP
Charleston Southern scored the first two runs of the night in the top of the first but the Gamecocks responded with nine unanswered runs on their way to the 9-2 win to start the night.
 
Mackenzie Boesel started the scoring effort in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to cut the deficit to 2-1 before Maddie Gallagher’s two-out single in the bottom of the third gave the Gamecocks 3-2 lead through three.
 
Kenzi Maguire pushed a run across in the fourth before Chooch Carroll, Maguire, Boesel and Jordan Fabian RBI led to a five-run fifth inning and gave South Carolina the 9-2 lead it wouldn’t surrender.
 
Bailey Betenbaugh (5-0) earned the win in the circle in 3.0 innings of work with just one hit allowed, no runs and a strikeout.
 
Maguire and Boesel both finished with a 3-for-4 game with a combined four runs and five RBI. Fabian posted a 2-for-4 night, as well.
 
SOUTH CAROLINA 8 | CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 0 – RECAP
The Gamecocks dominated from start to finish in an 8-0 run-rule victory over the Buccaneers to close out the night. Carolina’s second game was highlighted with a five-run fifth inning capped with Chooch Carroll’s first career home run.
 
Continuing her successful night at the plate, Jordan Fabian’s walk-off single in the fifth inning was the final difference in the doubleheader sweep.
 
Mackenzie Boesel’s double in the bottom of the first, as well as Fabian’s single gave the Gamecocks the early 2-0 lead through one.
 
After both teams traded scoreless frames in the second and third, the Garnet and Black responded with five runs in the fourth thanks to Kenzi Maguire, Boesel, and Carroll RBI to push the lead to 7-0 through four.
 
Kelsey Oh (3-6) earned the win in the circle going all five innings with just one hit allowed with three strikeouts.
 
Maguire finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs, two doubles and two RBI. Fabian produced with a 3-for-3 night with three RBI while Carroll was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Aaliyah White was also 2-for-3 with two runs while Alyssa Kumiyama and Zoe Laneaux were both a perfect 1-for-1 in pinch-hit situations.
