Gamecocks Grab No. 7 Seed for SEC Tournament

South Carolina Faces No. 10 Seed Vanderbilt on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Tuscaloosa

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team will be the No. 7 seed for this year’s SEC Tournament that begins Monday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Gamecocks, ranked 27th nationally, will face No. 10 seed Vanderbilt in the second round Tuesday at 4 p.m. South Carolina defeated the No. 22 Commodores during the regular season by a 4-1 score in Columbia, S.C., on April 1. South Carolina went 10-10 overall during the regular season, while Vanderbilt was 13-8 and 5-8 in league play.

The winner of Tuesday’s contest will take on No. 2 seed and 13th-ranked Florida on Wednesday at 4 p.m. South Carolina dropped a 4-2 decision to the Gators to end the regular season earlier this week on April 13 in Columbia. It snapped a six-match unbeaten streak for the Gamecocks.

In South Carolina’s last appearance in the 2019 SEC Tournament, the Gamecocks won their first league title with victories against Florida, Vanderbilt and Georgia in the championship match. South Carolina is one of only four teams to win the SEC Tournament, the other three being the same teams the Gamecocks had to defeat in 2019.
