Seven Student-Athletes Recognized in UofSC Awards Day

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Seven South Carolina student-athletes were among those recognized during University Awards Day last week. The list included three members of the women’s swimming and diving team, an equestrian rider, and one student-athlete from women’s soccer, softball and women’s track.
 
Equestrian’s Mira Clavecilla, an exercise science major, was one of the recipients of the President’s Award, which honors the University’s most exceptional graduating seniors for their major achievements in service, leadership, academics and research.
 
Four Gamecock student-athletes were recognized as UofSC Outstanding Seniors. Danielle Doennebrink and Jenna Pehowski of the swimming and diving team, Anna Vest of the softball team and Brooke Wilson of track and field picked up the award, which goes to those who demonstrate major achievement in the categories of service, leadership, academics and research.
 
Swimming and diving’s Emma Alexander was one of four to earn the Distinguished Junior Award from the English Department for her exceptional scholastic achievement.
 
The Department of Biological Sciences bestowed its James T. Penney Award on Victoria Robbins of women’s soccer. The award is given to an upper-level biological sciences student who excels academically and is active in an intercollegiate athletics program.
