Baseball Falls to Clemson on Tuesday Night

CLEMSON  – The University of South Carolina baseball team fell to Clemson, 7-2, Tuesday night (May 11) to close out the three-game series with the Tigers. The Gamecocks win the series, two games to one.
 
Wes Clarke gave Carolina a 1-0 lead in the fifth with a solo home run to right, but the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the frame, two on a throwing error off a sacrifice bunt. Clemson added a run in the sixth. Jeff Heinrich hit his first home run of the season in the eighth but the Tigers added insurance with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
 
David Mendham was 3-for-5 on the night while Michael Robinson added a pair of hits. Daniel Lloyd took the loss, allowing an earned run with a hit and a strikeout in 2.1 innings. CJ Weins pitched 2.2 hitless innings in a start with a pair of strikeouts.

POSTGAME NOTES

• Andrew Eyster earned the Tom Price Award as the Gamecocks’ Most Valuable Player in the Clemson series. Eyster, who also won the award in 2019, was 5-for-15 in the series with a pair of game-winning hits in February.
• Wes Clarke now has the home run lead in the SEC with 19 round trippers.
• Weins made his first start of the season in the game. He now has four appearances on the year.
