USA Advances to AmeriCup Finals

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – South Carolina women’s basketball sophomore Aliyah Boston and junior Destanni Henderson are set to play in the finals of the 2021 AmeriCup after besting Brazil, 71-60, on Friday at Coliseo Roberto Clemente.

Boston was efficient in the win, finishing with six points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Henderson notched her first start of the tournament, scoring three points in the victory. Freshman Kamilla Cardoso was a force in the post, pulling down 10 rebounds for Brazil, finishing with four points and three blocks in addition to her rebounds.

The nightcap set the potential for an all-Gamecocks final with sophomore Laeticia Amihere and her Canadian squad facing Puerto Rico. Despite a 12-point and 11-rebound double-double from Amihere Canada fell in a nail biter, 65-61.

The AmeriCup tournament wraps up on Saturday with Canada facing Brazil in the third-place game at 6:10 p.m. and the United States clashing with Puerto Rico in the finals at 9:10 p.m. on ESPN+.
