Gamecocks in the Show Update - July 15

The second half of the MLB season starts tonight.

The Major League Baseball season’s second half starts tonight and six Gamecock alumni are on MLB rosters in 2021. Here’s a recap of the first half of the season for the Gamecocks in the Show.
 

  • Jackie Bradley Jr. (Milwaukee Brewers) – Bradley Jr. has played in 82 games for the Brewers this season, helping the team to first place in the NL Central. He has 25 runs scored, eight doubles, two triples, six home runs and 23 RBI in 264 at-bats. Bradley Jr. also has five stolen bases for the Brew Crew.
  • Wil Crowe (Pittsburgh Pirates) – Crowe has made 13 appearances and 12 starts for the Pirates this season. He picked up his first career win on June 25 against St. Louis. Crowe has struck out 50 batters in 55 innings pitched in 2021.
  • Whit Merrifield (Kansas City Royals) – Merrifield made his second straight All-Star Game, playing in the 2021 version in Denver. He is hitting .270 with 50 runs scored, 20 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 47 RBI in 89 games played. He also leads the American League with 24 stolen bases.
  • Jordan Montgomery (New York Yankees) – Montgomery has three wins on the season with a 4.16 ERA in 17 starts for the Yankees. Montgomery has 95 strikeouts in 93 innings pitched and has a 1.23 WHIP. He struck out 11 batters in seven innings in a start against the Chicago White Sox on May 21.
  • Christian Walker (Arizona Diamondbacks) – Walker has been hampered by injuries in 2021, playing just 55 games this season. He has nine doubles, a triple, four home runs and 21 RBI in 197 at-bats. Walker is hitting .291 in Arizona’s last 15 games.
  • Taylor Widener (Arizona Diamondbacks) – Widener also has been on the injured list this season, as he just came back to the Diamondbacks on July 9, where he struck out five in 4.1 innings of work in a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Widener is 1-0 with a 2.54 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 28.1 innings.
