Lawson And Nelson Named to NABC Honors Court
COLUMBIA, S.C. – A pair of Gamecocks were named to the NABC Honors Court on Tuesday, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced. AJ Lawson and Nathan Nelson were both honored for their outstanding performances in the classroom.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. They must academically be a junior or senior and a varsity player, and must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2020-21 academic year, and been at their current institution for at least one year. Student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II are honored for their academic achievements on the Honors Court.
Lawson, a public health major, led the Gamecocks with 16.6 points per game last season en route to Second Team All-SEC Honors. He declared for the NBA Draft earlier this summer following a standout career in the Garnet and Black. Nelson, a political science major, saw action in 15 contests last season with two starts. He connected on 9-of-14 attempts from the field (.643), including hitting 6-of-8 (.750) from beyond the arc. Both Lawson and Nelson also earned SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll accolades earlier this year.
