Darling Named to Great Britain & Ireland Team for Curtis Cup

Incoming freshman one of eight women selected from GB&I for prestigious event

ST. ANDREWS, U.K. — Incoming freshman Hannah Darling was selected as one of eight individuals to play for the Great Britain and Ireland team against the United States in the 41st Curtis Cup, the The Royal and Ancient Golf Club (R&A) announced on Monday.

This year’s tournament will take place August 26-28 at Conwy Golf Club in Wales. The biennial event, established in 1932, is one of the highest team trophies awarded in women’s amateur golf. It is co-organized by the United States Golf Association and The R&A.

“Being selected to the Curtis Cup is one of the highest honors in women’s amateur golf,” said head coach Kalen Anderson. “I am very excited for Hannah to have achieved this well-deserved selection, as the GB&I Curtis Cup team has been one of her long-term goals. Competing in the event will be just one of the many great honors and experiences in her bright career going forward.”

Darling, a highly-touted recruit that is expected to contribute right away for the Gamecocks, is currently ranked No. 33 in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). She picked up a big win back in early July as she earned medalist honors in the stroke play portion of the 2021 European ladies’ Team Championship at Royal Country Down Golf Club while competing for her native country of Scotland. Darling brings a plethora of additional international experience competing for Europe in the Junior Solheim Cup and for the Great Britain & Ireland squad in the Junior Vagliano Trophy, both in 2019. In her native Scotland, she claimed the 2019 Scottish Open Girls championship after winning the Scottish Girls Amateur Championship in both 2017 and 2018. Adding to her international experience, Darling took fifth at the 2019 European Ladies Championship, sixth at the 2019 ANNIKA Invitational Europe and sixth at the 2019 World Junior Girls Championship.
