Gamecock Summer Baseball Wrap-Up

The Gamecocks in the summer leagues included six players in the Cape Cod League.

COLUMBIA – The collegiate summer leagues across the country have wrapped up as the Gamecocks are back on campus starting skill work. Here’s an overview of how the Gamecocks did in their collegiate summer league seasons.
 

  • Braylen Wimmer was one of six Gamecocks that played in the Cape Cod League this summer. Wimmer played in 23 games and hit .282 with six doubles, two home runs and 16 RBI. He was second on the team in RBI.
  • Wesley Sweatt, Jackson Phipps and Michael Esposito all played in Falmouth in the Cape. Sweatt went 1-0 with a 3.11 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 17.1 innings pitched and nine appearances. Phipps made eight appearances on the mound, striking out 16 batters in 14.2 innings pitched and Esposito pitched in three games and had a save with four strikeouts in three innings pitched.
  • Noah Hall pitched for Hyannis in the Cape, making a pair of appearances with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings pitched. Matt Hogan played in 26 games for Chatham and had six doubles, four home runs and 10 RBI with eight walks in 26 games played.
  • Will Sanders made two appearances for the Team USA Collegiate National Team this summer. Sanders’ second outing was his best, striking out a pair in three scoreless innings of work on July 14 in Princeton, W. Va.
  • Four Gamecocks played for the Lexington County Blowfish for the second straight season. On the mound, Cade Austin pitched in 14 games and had 41 strikeouts in 28.2 innings pitched, going 2-0 with a pair of saves. Parker Coyne had 11 strikeouts in 7.1 innings pitched in five games. At the plate, Jalen Vasquez had four doubles and a home run with 28 hits while David Cromer had three doubles and five RBI in 30 games played.
  • Talmadge Lecroy played for the Danville Otterbots of the Appalachian League, playing in 20 games with three doubles, a pair of home runs and seven RBI.
  • Elijah Lambros played in 11 games for the Peninsula Pilots of the Valley League, driving in three runs and scoring three while stealing a pair of bases.
  • Connor Cino hit .284 with 11 runs scored, four doubles, two home runs and 15 RBI in 23 games played for the Waynesboro Generals of the Valley League. Cino also stole five bases for the Generals.
  • CJ Weins made six appearances and three starts on the mound for the Joliet Dirtbags and struck out 44 batters in 20.1 innings pitched as opponents hit just .086 against him.
