Gamecocks Drop Friday Night Match Against No. 4 Clemson

Carolina surrendered five goals to the Tigers

CLEMSON—The South Carolina men’s soccer team fell to No. 4 Clemson on Friday night, 5-0, at Historic Riggs Field.

“I was incredibly proud of my boys and the work they put in,” head coach Tony Annan said. “Obviously I’m always disappointed to lose games, but I’m leaving here very proud of my team. I’m very proud of the boys in there who absolutely put a shift in.”

The Gamecocks (1-2-0) were down two men for nearly 49 minutes of action after both Jake O’Connor (36′) and Jordan Matthews (42′) were handed red cards for collecting two yellow cards in the match.

The No. 4 Tigers (3-0-0) scored their first two second-half goals within mere minutes of each other.

Ousmane Sylla scored the game-winning goal for Clemson. In the 66th minute, he received a corner kick, dribbled his way in toward Tristan Himes and put a shot past Himes’ right side for a goal.

The Gamecocks are back in action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night for a matchup with Presbyterian College at Stone Stadium.
