Softball Announces Complete Fall Schedule
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team’s fall schedule will see many former Gamecocks across the diamond from head coach Beverly Smith and her squad, as the Gamecocks will have a full slate of action this fall. South Carolina will play eight games against opponents before the schedule concludes with the annual Garnet and Black scrimmage. All fall home games at Carolina Softball Stadium are free and open to the public.
The fall schedule opens on September 26 with a pair of games at UNC Greensboro. While there, the Gamecocks will face the host Spartans, who made the NCAA Tournament this past spring, followed by a matchup against Elon. The Spartans are led by Janelle Breneman, who spent two seasons as an assistant coach under Smith, before accepting the head coaching position at UNCG in 2012.
The home portion of the fall schedule begins October 1 when South Carolina faces USC Beaufort at 6 p.m. The Sand Sharks are led by first-year head coach, and softball alumna, Codee Yeske (2012-14).
Two days later the Gamecocks travel to Charlotte where they face ACC Tournament champion Duke and then take on the host 49ers. There will be a pair of former Gamecocks across the diamond in the Charlotte dugout as alumna Ashley Chastain (2009-11) begins her second season leading the 49ers, and alongside her is former South Carolina volunteer coach Taylor Wike.
South Carolina returns home to host Winthrop October 8 at 6 p.m., before concluding outside competition the following day with a doubleheader against Georgia Tech at 1 p.m.
The annual Garnet and Black Scrimmage is scheduled for Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.
