Gamecocks Undefeated on Final Day of the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic
GREENVILLE, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis finished strong in the final round of singles play at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic, with Sarah Hamner and No. 50 Megan Davies upsetting the No. 65 and No. 21 players, respectively. The Gamecocks went undefeated on the day and won each singles match in straight sets.
South Carolina will continue its fall action in Cary, N.C. at the USTA Fall Ranked Spotlight from Friday, Sept. 24, to Sunday, Sept. 26.
Gamecock Notables
- No. 50 Megan Davies upset No. 21 Carolyn Campana of Wake Forest 7-6 (1), 7-5 for her first ranked singles win this fall.
- Sarah Hamner defeated Georgia Tech’s No. 65 Ava Hrastar 7-5, 7-6 (3) to claim victory in her flight. This marked Hamner’s second upset of the weekend.
- Newcomer Ayana Akli took down Malaika Rapolu of Texas in a commanding 6-2, 6-3 decision.
- Allie Gretkowski posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Tennessee’s Daria Kuczar.
- Facing Furman’s Madison Dillon on her home courts, Elise Mills came out on top 6-2, 7-5.
- Freshman Misa Malkin earned her first win this fall over Rosie Garcia Gross of Georgia Tech 7-5, 6-2.
- On the indoor courts, Chloe Narboni downed Clemson’s Makayla Mills 6-3, 6-2.
- Kendall Couch secured a win with an efficient 6-3, 6-1 victory over Gabby Cusano of Texas.
