Gamecocks Set to See Increased Distance, Cooler Temperatures at Paul Short Run

Carolina faces its first 6K of the season in the Lehigh Valley

COLUMBIA– The South Carolina women’s cross country team ramps up the intensity and distance at the Paul Short Run on the campus of Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Paul Short Run is set to have a field full of quality opponents and longer distance: 6K. It will be the first 6K of the season for the Gamecocks.

Hannah Twine is coming off an individual victory at the Winthrop Invitational. She has run two of Carolina’s three best times this season. Lily Weeks is set to return. The freshman was Carolina’s No. 2 in the season opener, but was did not run in Rock Hill. Co-captain Kira Jenkins and Claudia Satzke have been staples in the scoring for Carolina. The pair looks to continue the scoring efforts in Pennsylvania.

Meet Schedule
The Gamecocks will have representatives in two races. The women’s 6K Open Race is set to begin at 10:15 a.m. and the Women’s College Brown section is slated to kick off at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Gamecocks continued their winning ways in Rock Hill at the Winthrop Invitational on Sept. 18. Hannah Twine won the individual title at the Winthrop Invitational, crossing the line with a time of 18:58.75 for her first collegiate cross country win.

Kira Jenkins wasn’t far behind, finishing in third place with a time of 19:08.50.

Claudia Satzke, Katerina Hendrix and Syrah Ghijselings went 7-8-9 to close out the Gamecock scoring effort. The Gamecocks scored 28 points for the second consecutive meet to win the team title for a second straight meet.

Meg Lebo (13th), Savannah Bowers (15th), Kathleen Abrams (16th) and Jenna Pellizzari (19th) all had top-20 finishes.
