Carolina Earns Top-10 Finish at Paul Short Run

The Gamecocks put four in the top 100 of a 342-athlete field for a 10th-place team finish

BETHLEHEM, Penn. – The South Carolina cross country team earned a 10th-place finish at the Paul Short Run on Friday on the campus of Lehigh.

“I was pleased with our team finish,” cross country coach Andrew Allden said. “Our goal was to be in the top 10 and we achieved that. We had a lower score than I was expecting. We basically put our whole top five and six in the top third, so I’m pretty happy with that result.

“I was excited to see Hannah Twine break 22 minutes. I think there were some significant periods of time the girls were running together and that was very helpful. I was pleased with the way our depth runners, our 4-5-6-7 runners, ran today.”

The Gamecocks finished 10th in the team race with 342 points. Carolina’s top-10 finish as a team came in a field of 39 teams.

Hannah Twine led the way for the Gamecocks for the third consecutive meet. She finished in 23rd with a time of 21:54.9 in the first 6K of the season. It’s Twine’s third-fastest 6K of her collegiate career.

Lily Weeks returned to the Carolina lineup after missing the Winthrop Invitational. She ran a time of 22:30.9 to finish in 58th place.

Kira Jenkins and Claudia Satzke scored again for the Gamecocks. They both finished in the top 100 of the 342-athlete field. Jenkins took 80th in 22:48.6 and Satzke finished in 90th place, crossing the line in 22:56.9.

Katerina Hendrix rounded out the scoring effort for the Gamecocks, taking 122nd with a time of 23:12.0. Savannah Bowers (125th, 23:15.0) and Meg Lebo (135th, 23:23.3) were right behind Hendrix, finishing within 10 seconds of Carolina’s fifth woman across the line.

Jenna Pellizzari took 232nd in 24:25.7 and Kathleen Abrams finished in 24:40.6 for 250th to round out Carolina’s efforts in the Brown section.

In the Women’s Open 6K, the Gamecocks had two athletes compete. Isabella Pisani finished 114th with a time of 24:33.4 and Kensi Gray took 159th with a time of 25:12.6. The Open section had 291 participants.
