The Gamecocks faced increased racing distance at their last meet, the Paul Short Run. Carolina ran its first 6K of the season, which helped them in preparations for SEC and Regional meets.

The field of runners was also amplified in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. There were 342 runners and 39 teams in the Brown section of the Paul Short Run.

Hannah Twine led the way once again for the Gamecocks. She finished in 23rd overall with a time of 21:54.9, which was just off her 6K personal best.

Lily Weeks was Carolina’s No. 2 runner. The freshman has been the second-best Gamecock in both of her races this season. She took 58th.

Kira Jenkins (80th), Claudia Satzke (90th) and Katerina Hendrix (122nd) rounded out the scoring effort.

Carolina finished 10th as a team, which was the team’s goal, according to coach Andrew Allden.

On the goals and expectations at the Pirate Invitational
“We’ve been to this meet a couple of years ago, pre-COVID. It’s a very interesting course on a private estate. The grass and footing and everything is manicured like a golf course, so it’s a very nice course. I would describe it as fast, but fair. There are no major hills, but it is rolling. I’d say the biggest challenge outside of other teams will be the temperature. It’s going to be like 84 degrees, which is a little warm for 6K races this time of year. We’ll have to manage that like everyone else will.”
