Track and Field Announces 2022 Schedule

South Carolina hosts seven meets in 2022: four indoors and three outdoors

COLUMBIA—The South Carolina Gamecock track and field program’s schedule is set, and the Gamecocks are slated to host seven meets in 2022, Head Coach Curtis Frye announced Monday.

“Our schedule is conducive to great performances,” said head coach Curtis Frye. “We only go to banked 200-meter facilities indoors where our kids can run fast if they’re prepared to run. We don’t travel too far so our student-athletes don’t have to miss a lot of class and take on that stress.”

Four of the Gamecocks’ seven home meets come at the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex. South Carolina hosts three indoor meets in four weeks to end the month of January. It caps off the home indoor slate on Feb. 18 with the UofSC Indoor Open.

The remaining three home meets will come at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track. Weems Baskin kicks off the home slate outdoors for the Gamecocks on March 25-26. They then host back-to-back weeks starting with the Gamecock Invitational on April 16. The UofSC Open will celebrate seniors and close out the home slate on April 23.

“Being in our own facilities gives us the opportunity to determine our own outcome,” Frye said. “Being at home gives you the advantage so you’re comfortable. In turn, you get better performances. We think we have a place where our student-athletes can run fast. It’s a standard we aren’t going to lower.”

The SEC Indoor Championships are on the campus of Texas A&M at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, which has hosted the NCAA Indoor Championships four times. The conference meet outdoors will be in Oxford, Mississippi, at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex, which underwent a renovation in 2016.

The NCAA Indoor Championships return to the Birmingham Crossplex for the first time since 2019. Indoor titles will be earned on March 11 and 12.

The NCAA East Regional is set for a new four-day format to mimic the NCAA Outdoor Championship meet format. Indiana will play host to the East Regional from May 26 to May 29 in Bloomington, Indiana.

The NCAA Outdoor Championships are back in Eugene, Oregon, from June 8 until June 11. The newly renovated Hayward Field hosts the meet for a second consecutive year after hosting it from 2013 to 2018 before its renovation began in 2019.
