Softball Partners With Journalism School To Provide Broadcasts For First Seven Home Games

The entire Gamecock softball media schedule will be released at a date to be determined later.

COLUMBIA, S.C. —- South Carolina softball, in partnership with the University of South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communications, will provide student-run broadcasts for up to seven home games this season. With help from Director of Content Brad Muller, Dillon Clark, Nik Klos, Zach McKinstry and Connor Lomis will team up to call the first seven home games of the 2021 season on SEC Network+.

“It’s very satisfying to see these opportunities happen through the sports announcing class and South Carolina Athletics,” Muller said last fall before student broadcasters took over the broadcasting responsibility for men’s soccer matches. “It’s a great opportunity for students to take what they’ve learned in class and build their play-by-play resumes. This can be a difficult field for aspiring broadcasters to catch a break, and it’s great to see the students take advantage of these unique chances to call games for a major college sports program. Each student was selected because they have shown the ability to prepare and execute a quality broadcast, and I’m confident they will continue to do their best to inform and entertain the listening audience. Hopefully these opportunities will continue to help in growing the partnership between South Carolina Athletics and the School of Journalism and Mass Communications.”

The partnership with the School of Journalism and Mass Communications runs hand-in-hand with the school’s commitment to providing real-world opportunities to South Carolina students. All three students involved took part in Muller and instructor Greg Brannon’s sports announcing class this past fall semester where students were given the opportunity to call fall games and learn from industry professionals.

The School of Journalism and Mass Communications is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. It bridges practice and research, preparing the next generation of mass communication practitioners and scholars to communicate clearly, concisely, creatively and with integrity — ultimately advancing the communications professions in a democratic society.
