COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team plays its first mid-week game of the season when the Gamecocks host the Charlotte 49ers Wednesday, February 16 at 5 p.m. at the Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.

• The Gamecocks lead the all-time series against Charlotte 44-5. 
• Carolina has won the last 15 meetings dating back to 2011.
• Since 2002, the Gamecocks are 14-2 at home against the 49ers.
• Charlotte is coached by former Gamecock Ashley Chastain. She played for Carolina from 2009-11. 
• Former SC volunteer assistant coach Taylor Wike is also on Chastain’s staff as is former graduate manager Kali Jones who is now a volunteer assistant coach.
• South Carolina won its season opener over Virginia 3-2, marking the seventh consecutive season the Gamecocks have won their home opener.
• The Gamecocks opened the season at home for the third straight year. Last season the team opened the season with Carolina Classic, but was canceled due to weather. 
• South Carolina has opened the season at home in 7 of 12 seasons under Bev Smith.
• The 2022 roster features 21 total players. A total of seven different states are represented.
