Gamecocks Rally on Day Two of Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

Carolina climbs nine spots on leaderboard thanks to second lowest team score of the day

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — No. 4 South Carolina bounced back in a big way on Tuesday, climbing nine spots on the leaderboard at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks shot the second-best team score in the field with an even par 284.

“Very proud of this team’s resiliency today after an uncharacteristic first round,” said head coach Kalen Anderson. “The team played with a committed and confident mentality today. Looking forward to climbing the leaderboard tomorrow.”

Junior Mathilde Claisse posted another solid round with a 1-under 70. She opened with a 2-over 37 on the back nine and closed with a 3-under 33 on the front that featured four birdies. Claisse is T-13th at 2-over for the tournament. She climbed 24 spots on the leaderboard today.

Highly-touted freshman Hannah Darling, who entered the week No. 5 in the Golfstat Player Rankings, also shot 70 (-1). She climbed 35 spots on the leaderboard and is T-38th at 7-over. Darling had three birdies and made just two bogeys all round.

Fellow freshman Lousie Rydqvist also posted a solid score and made a steady climb up the leaderboard. She shot 71 (E) and moved up 25 spots and is T-35th at 6-over. Rydqvist was even on both sides with four birdies.

Junior transfer Justine Fournand was the final counting score with a 73 (+2). She made the turn at 4-over and rallied coming down the stretch with four birdies turning in a 2-under 34 on the way into the clubhouse.

No. 5 Wake Forest climbed three spots on the team leaderboard and moved into first with a field best score of 280 (-4) today. They were the only squad to break par on Tuesday at Long Cove Club. Arizona State’s Calynne Rosholt moved into the top spot on the Individual leaderboard with a round two 69 (-2). It should be an exciting race to the finish line Wednesday as seven players are with three shots of her. The Sun Devils sit six shots back of the Demon Deacons with a handful of others in the mix.

Golf Channel will again have live coverage for the third consecutive day from 2:30-5:30 p.m. (ET).

Fournand leads things off for Carolina at hole one in the final round at 9:40 a.m. Claisse will be the final player off for the Gamecocks at 10:20 a.m.
