Wright Named to SEC Community Service Team

Freshman point guard led team in service hours while being actively involved in SAAC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Freshman point guard Jacobi Wright was named to the SEC Community Service Team for men’s basketball on Thursday, the league office announced.

This marks the 24th year for the SEC Community Service Team for men’s basketball as well as for women’s basketball. All 21 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.

Since arriving on campus in the summer, Wright has been actively involved in different service outreach projects from the get-go. The Fort Mill, S.C., native leads the team in community service hours. He participated in a six-week pen pal program over the summer with a local camp. He has also participated in packing school supplies into backpacks that were delivered to that same camp. Wright also spent time reading for a local school district’s upcoming March Madness reading campaign.

Off the court, Wright serves as one of the men’s basketball team representatives on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He is also a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee on SAAC.

On the court, Wright has appeared in 29 games making nine starts. He’s averaged 3.6 points, 1.9 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game for the Gamecocks. South Carolina (18-11, 9-8 SEC) wraps up the regular season on Saturday afternoon at No. 5/5 Auburn (26-4, 14-3 SEC) at 1 p.m. (ET) on SEC Network. The Tigers clinched a share of the SEC Regular Season Title last night with an 81-68 overtime win at Mississippi State.
