Leading off

• The Gamecocks lead the all-time series against Youngstown State 3-0.
• Carolina run-ruled the Penguins back in 2019, also in Columbia. 
• The previous meetings between to two teams came all the way back in 1994 in Columbia.
• The Gamecocks lead the all-time series against Michigan State 7-2.
• Seven of those meetings have come under Beverly Smith, who is 6-1 against MSU.
• South Carolina has won the last five meetings against the Spartans.
• MSU’s last victory came in 2011, and 8-7 win in Boca Raton, Florida.
• Carolina is 3-0 at home against the Spartans.
• Freshman Emma Sellers is hitting .400 through the first 19 games. She is the first freshman to do so since Kennedy Clark in 2016, who was hitting .418.
• Sellers 22 hits also trail Clark’s 23 by a freshman through 19 games.
• The Gamecocks opened the season at home for the third straight year. Last season the team opened the season with Carolina Classic, but was canceled due to weather. 
• South Carolina has opened the season at home in 7 of 12 seasons under Bev Smith.
• The 2022 roster features 21 total players. A total of seven different states are represented.
