No. 4 Gamecocks Lead by Two in Augusta

Carolina seeking its third win of season, first this spring on Sunday

AUGUSTA, Ga. — No. 4 South Carolina leads by two shots after day one of the Valspar Augusta Invitational. Due to cool temperatures and high winds, the tournament has been shortened to just 36 holes. The Gamecocks shot 301 (+13) and lead No. 25 Ole Miss and Miami by two shots.

All six players competing for Carolina are in the top-30 of the 90-player leaderboard. Standout freshman Hannah Darling is in second after shooting even par. She’s just one back of leader Anna Morgan of Furman, who was the only player in the field to post a red number at 1-under.

Junior Justine Fournand is T-9^th at 3-over. Sophomore Paula Kirner, who is playing as an individual this week, is also T-9^th at 3-over alongside Fournand and seven other players.

Sophomore Mathilde Claisse is T-18^th at 4-over. Freshman Lousie Rydqvist was the final counting score with a 78 (+6). Graduate transfer Tai Anudit also shot 78 (+6). The duo is T-27^th with seven other players.

The Gamecocks will be seeking the team’s third victory of the season tomorrow at Forest Hills Golf Club. Darling is gunning for her first collegiate win.

It will be a shotgun start for the field tomorrow with tee times yet to be determined due to the potential for frost.
