The Gamecocks went 1-3 on the week, which included the start to the SEC schedule.

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 1-3 on the week, defeating Gardner-Webb on Tuesday night before being swept at No. 7 Tennessee.

NOTES:
Matthew Becker had his second straight solid outing in the series finale at Tennessee. He pitched five innings, allowing just two hits with two runs and seven strikeouts compared to just one walk. Becker has now struck out 18 batters in the last two games.
 
Brandt Belk extended his hitting streak to eight games after recording a hit in each game at Tennessee. In the last 10 contests, Belk is 14-for-37 (.378) with four doubles, three home runs and seven RBI.
 
Carolina recorded its second shutout of the season on Tuesday night, defeating Gardner-Webb 12-0 in seven innings. Aidan Hunter, Cade Austin and Michael Esposito combined to allow just five hits in the win.
 
Carolina is at The Citadel on Tuesday night before hosting Vanderbilt in a Thursday-Saturday series. Thursday’s game is on ESPN2 with Tom Hart and Kyle Peterson on the call.
