Gamecocks Drop Game Two of the Series to No. 19 Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. – South Carolina dropped the second game of its SEC softball series at 19th ranked Auburn Sunday night (Mar. 20), as the Gamecocks fell 11-2. Carolina now sits at 18-9 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.
Auburn scored in the bottom of the first, before the Gamecocks answered in the second. Maddie Gallagher was hit by a pitch and Giulia Desiderio walked. One out later, Gallagher scored when Carlie Henderson’s groundball resulted in a wild throw by the Auburn third baseman.
South Carolina took the lead in the top of the third. Katie Prebble drew a leadoff walk and Emma Sellers was hit by a pitch. Gallagher delivered a single to left-center, scoring Prebble from second.
The Tigers retook the lead for good in bottom of the third with four runs, before adding six more in the fourth.
Karsen Ochs suffered the loss, allowing five runs on six hits, while striking out two in 2 2-3 innings.
The rubber match will be at 7 p.m. ET tomorrow night, March 21, on the SEC Network.
