Baseball Visits The Citadel Tuesday Night

The Gamecocks and Bulldogs will meet at Joe Riley Park at 7 p.m.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina baseball team makes its annual visit to Charleston as the Gamecocks face The Citadel on Tuesday night (March 22) with a 7 p.m. first pitch at Riley Park. Tuesday’s game will be on ESPN+. All games also will be broadcast on The Game 107.5 FM with Derek Scott and Tommy Moody on the call. The Gamecocks were swept at No. 7 Tennessee this past weekend. Matthew Becker struck out seven in his five-inning start while Cade Austin threw 3.1 innings of hitless relief on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE CITADEL
The Bulldogs swept Saint Peter’s this past weekend, outscoring the Peacocks, 31-6, including an 18-3 win on Sunday. Sawyer Reeves drove in three runs while Tilo Skole scored three runs in the series finale victory. Travis Lott leads The Citadel with a .345 batting average while Cole Simpson is hitting .333 with 25 RBI. On the mound, Devin Beckley is 3-1 with a 1.71 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 26.1 innings pitched.

SERIES VS. THE CITADEL
Carolina leads the all-time series with The Citadel, 139-49-1, and have won nine of the last 10 meetings. The Gamecocks won all three games against the Bulldogs last year, winning twice in Columbia and once in Charleston. Will Sanders struck out 10 in a midweek win over the Bulldogs on March 23.

CHAPIN DUO IMPRESSES AT TENNESSEE
Pitchers Cade Austin and Matthew Becker had solid outings at No. 7 Tennessee (March 18-20). Austin pitched 3.1 hitless innings while striking out five and walking just one in Saturday’s game. Becker then had his second straight solid start, striking out seven and allowing just two hits and two runs and one walk in five innings of play. Austin is 1-0 with a 4.08 ERA while Becker is 1-1 with a 2.65 ERA.

UP NEXT
The Gamecocks host No. 4 Vanderbilt for a Thursday-Saturday series on March 24-26 at Founders Park. The series begins on Thursday night at 8 p.m. and that game will be televised on ESPN2.
