Gamecocks Fall in 10 innings to No. 19 Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. – For the second time in three days, the South Carolina softball team went to extra innings with the 19th ranked Auburn Tigers on Monday night (Mar. 21). The Gamecocks were unable to come up with a similar decision in game three, as they fell 4-3 in 10 innings. Carolina is now 18-10 on the year and 2-4 in SEC play.
This was the first SEC series in program history where multiple games went 10 innings or longer. It was the first series since Georgia in 2019 to feature two extra-inning games.
Maddie Gallagher and Aaliyah White led the way with two hits on the night. While also led the team with two RBIs.
Bailey Betenbaugh took the loss in the circle, throwing a complete game, allowing four runs while scattering six hits and striking out five.
Auburn scored in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded walk.
The Gamecocks would score all three of their runs in the top of the fourth. Katie Prebble walked to get things started. Riley Blampied singled down the left field line and Gallagher singled on a bunt to load the bases. Giulia Desiderio grounded out to the second baseman, bringing home Prebble. Carolina took the lead when one out later, White beat the shift and tripled down the right field line, scoring two runs.
The final three Auburn runs came on solo home runs in the fifth, sixth, and 10th innings.
South Carolina travels to Charlotte for a rematch with the 49ers, Wednesday, March 23, with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
