COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina dropped the final game of its softball series 6-1 to No. 4 Alabama Sunday afternoon (Mar. 27). The Gamecock’s record now stands at 18-13 on the year and 2-7 in conference play.

The lone run for Carolina came in the fourth inning when it loaded the bases. With one away, Maddie Gallagher earned a walk and Hannah Kumiyama followed with a single to center. One out later, Riley Blampied was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Zoe Laneaux was able to draw a full count walk, bringing home Gallagher.

Laneaux later had a one-out single in the seventh, but was left stranded at second.

Alabama scored three runs in the first, before adding one each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

Starter Bailey Betenbaugh took the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on three hits. Leah Powell came on in relief, throwing 3 2-3 innings, surrendering two runs. Skylar Trahan threw the final three innings, allowing one run and striking out two.
