Baseball Hosts Presbyterian to End Homestand

The Gamecocks and Blue Hose meet on the diamond Tuesday at 7 p.m.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina baseball team ends its homestand Tuesday night (March 29) as the Gamecocks host Presbyterian at 7 p.m. at Founders Park. Tuesday’s game will be on SEC Network Plus. All games also will be broadcast on the Gamecock Sports Network with Derek Scott and Tommy Moody on the call. The Gamecocks took 2-of-3 games from No. 4 Vanderbilt this past week, winning the final two contests by scores of 8-2 and 8-6. Braylen Wimmer had two home runs and five RBI in the Saturday win.
 
PARKING INFORMATION
Shuttle parking for the University of South Carolina baseball season will be operational at the Key Road Gravel Lot (1105 Key Road). Shuttle begins two (2) hours prior to first pitch and continues until 1 hour after the game.

For GPS purposes, the address for the Key Road Gravel Lot is 1105 Key Road, Columbia, SC 29201.

GAME DAY PARKING INFORMATION (including public game day lots (PGDL: $10/$5 per game). All gameday lots are cashless. Please have a debit card or credit card ready for payment upon entry into parking lots.

SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN
The Blue Hose took 1-of-3 games at Campbell this past weekend, winning the Saturday contest, 12-8, as Brody Fahr drove in three runs and Eric Toth scored three runs. PC used a seven-run second inning and six strikeouts from Duncan Howard in the win. Toth leads the team with three home runs while he shares the RBI lead (14) with Chase Hughes. On the mound, Howard is 3-2 with a 2.88 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 34.1 innings pitched.

SERIES VS. PRESBYTERIAN
Carolina leads the all-time series with Presbyterian, 48-20, and is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings. The last time the two teams played was on Feb. 19, 2020, as the Gamecocks won 14-3 behind four RBI from Noah Campbell and three hits and three runs scored from George Callil.

WIMMER’S NAMED SEC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
University of South Carolina junior infielder Braylen Wimmer has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Player of the Week, it was announced this afternoon (Monday, March 28). Wimmer helped the Gamecocks to a series win over No. 4 Vanderbilt, their third and fourth wins over a top-five team this season. Wimmer went 6-for-12 in the Vanderbilt series with four extra base hits (two doubles and two home runs) and five RBI. The weekend for Wimmer was highlighted by a 3-for-3 performance at the plate on Saturday with a pair of home runs and a career high five RBI in the 8-6 win over the Commodores to go along with a great defensive play to end the top of the fourth. Wimmer went 2-for-5 with a run scored in the 8-2 win on Friday, helping the Gamecocks to their first series win over Vandy at home since 2015. On the season, Wimmer is hitting .348 with five doubles, two home runs and 18 RBI.
 
FROSH ARMS LIFT GAMECOCKS TO SATURDAY WIN
A trio of freshmen helped Carolina to an 8-6 win over No. 4 Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon (March 26). Matthew Becker started the game, striking out four in 4.2 innings. Aidan Hunter earned the win on the mound, striking out three in 2.1 innings. Cade Austin picked up his first save, allowing just one run in the final two innings. Austin leads the Gamecocks with a 3.42 ERA while Hunter and Becker have 3.51 and 3.74 ERA’s, respectively.

COLLECTING TOP-5 WINS
Carolina earned a pair of wins over No. 4 Vanderbilt this past weekend, adding to the collection of top-five wins for the Gamecocks. Carolina defeated No. 1 Texas twice on March 12-13. The Gamecocks are 4-5 against top-five opponents and have the nation’s fourth best strength of schedule as of March 28.
