Gamecocks Limit No. 21 Tigers to Two Hits, but Drop Series Opener
BATON ROUGE, La. – The South Carolina softball team out-hit the 21st ranked LSU Tigers and limited them to just two hits in the series opener, but it was not enough as the Gamecocks fell 4-0.
South Carolina had the first hit of the night when Carlie Henderson singled with two outs in the second. Carolina’s other hits came when Kassidy Krupit led off the sixth with a single up the middle and Hannah Kumiyama led off the seventh with a single to right-center.
LSU’s runs came on a two-run home run in the second and a two-run fielder’s choice in the fifth.
Leah Powell took the loss, despite striking out three, and allowing two earned runs on two hits in 4 2-3 innings. Kelsey Oh came on for the final 1 1-3 innings, striking out three of the four batter she faced.
Game two of the series between the Gamecocks and Tigers will be tomorrow, April 15, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
