The Gamecocks went 3-1 on the week, defeating North Florida on Tuesday and winning the Ole Miss series.

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 3-1 on the week, defeating North Florida in the midweek before winning 2-of-3 games against No. 25 Ole Miss.

NOTES:
Carolina earned its third series win at home against a ranked team, defeating No. 25 Ole Miss on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, the last game in a 9-8 walk-off victory. The Gamecocks now have series wins over Texas, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss.
 
Jalen Vasquez was the hero in Saturday’s win as his sacrifice fly scored Talmadge LeCroy for the 9-8 win. It was Vasquez’s second career RBI and he’s now hitting .333 on the season.
 
Josiah Sightler was 8-for-15 with five runs scored, three home runs and five RBI in the four games this week. Sightler homered in the 4-2 win over North Florida and his three-run home run on Friday was the difference in a 4-2 win over No. 25 Ole Miss. Sightler was the designated hitter on Saturday afternoon after an injury on Friday night and had two extra-base hits, a double and an eighth-inning home run, in the 9-8 win over the Rebels. Sightler has upped his batting average to .263 on the season with seven home runs and 13 RBI.
 
Noah Hall pitched another gem in Carolina’s 4-2 win on Friday. He went 7.2 innings and allowed just six hits and two runs with five strikeouts and no walks to earn his second win of the season. He had a season high in innings pitched and has walked just two hitters in the last 21.2 innings pitched.
 
Brandt Belk carries a 22-game hitting streak into Wednesday night vs. Ole Miss. Belk missed the first two games of the week due to illness, but came back and had singles in Friday and Saturday’s wins over the Rebels.
 
Matthew Becker had a pair of saves on the weekend, striking out three in two innings to lock up the win over North Florida and striking out three in 1.1 innings on Friday night in a win over Ole Miss.

Carolina hits the road for four games this weekend, visiting Winthrop on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. and travelling to Auburn, Ala., to face Auburn in a three-game series starting Friday night.
