No. 3 Gamecocks Earn Top Seed in Tallahassee Regional

23rd straight NCAA Regional appearance in program history dating back to 1999

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — No. 3 South Carolina is headed to the Tallahassee Regional (May 9-11) for the 2022 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship it was announced Wednesday afternoon on the NCAA Selection Show live on the Golf Channel. The Gamecocks will be the No. 1 seed in the 12-team regional.

“We are excited and honored to have earned the No. 1 seed at the Tallahassee Regional,” said head coach Kalen Anderson. “We look forward to having final exams behind us. Our group has been preparing extremely diligently, and we will be ready to compete.”

It marks the 23rd straight NCAA Regional appearance for the program dating back to 1999.

This season marks the first on the women’s side in which there will be six regional sites with 12 teams (72 total) and six individuals (36 total).  The top four teams and top two individuals (not on an advancing team) will move on from each regional site to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship (May 20-25), which will be held at Grayhawk Golf Club (Raptor Course) in Scottsdale, Ariz. for the second consecutive year.

This year’s team has been ranked in the top-five from start to finish and set a new program record with five tournament wins.

Under Anderson, the Gamecocks have won five NCAA Regional titles (2010, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017) and have advanced to nine NCAA Championships in the last 11 seasons; the program had appeared in the NCAA Championship a total of eight times since 1980 before her arrival in 2008.

Carolina punched its ticket to Grayhawk last season in dramatic fashion, advancing in a playoff for the final spot out of the Louisville Regional. After a tough opening round at the NCAA Championship, the Gamecocks rallied to finish 13th missing NCAA Match Play (top-eight) by just six shots.
