Softball Adds Two Transfers in Blankenship and Gobourne
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina softball head coach Beverly Smith announced the signing of a second pair of transfers in Brooke Blankenship (Hudson, Fla./Florida State) and Dontaysha (Donnie) Gobourne (Sebring, Fla./Florida Atlantic).
Blankenship, a 5-5 infielder, throws and hits from the right side. As a freshman at Florida State, she played in 42 games, earning 23 starts. She finished the season hitting .214 with a triple and a home run. She scored 14 runs and drove in seven and was 4-for-4 on stolen bases. Entering her freshman season, Blankenship was ranked the 5th best player in the nation by Extra Inning Softball in the 2021 class. She was also named the 2A Florida Player of the Year as a freshman and was a three-time First Team All-State selection.
Gobourne is a 5-8 pitcher who throws right-handed. She played two seasons at FAU after playing her freshman season at Santa Fe Junior College. In two seasons with the Owls, Gobourne posted a 4.84 ERA in 33 appearances. She started in the circle 29 times, throwing six complete games and a shutout. In 123 innings, she struck out 125 batters. During the 2022 season, she led Conference USA with a .192 batting average against, four home runs allowed (4), and hits allowed (44). Her 4.76 hits allowed per seven innings ranked 45th in the nation. She struck out 89 batters in 64 2-3 innings for a 9.7 strikeout per seven innings, which was 24th best in the country.
At Sante Fe, she was named to the All-Conference Team and was named Player of the Week. She tossed 83 2-3 innings, with a 2.68 ERA, and struck out 103 batters.
