South Carolina Travels to Queen City for Royals Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 6, 2022) – South Carolina Cross Country will compete in its final 5K event tomorrow when the Gamecocks take part in the 2022 Royals Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.

The Royals Challenge, hosted by Queens University, will take place at McAlpine Creek Park. The course is the long-time home of the Foot Locker High School Southeast Championship and is a flat, firm, and fast course.

GAMECOCK RUNNERS
The Gamecocks will be split into two groups for the second consecutive meet, with four runners beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Blue 5K. South Carolina will be represented by Sarah Neville, Isabella Pisani, Kaitlyn Porter and Claudia Satzke. The trio of Pisani, Porter and Satzke will be making their season debuts for South Carolina, while Neville will be competing for the third time this season. Neville set a new personal record with a time of 20:45.1 at the Winthrop Invitational 5K earlier this season.

The Gamecocks will send 10 competitors to compete in the Gold 5K beginning at 5:05 p.m. The South Carolina competitors will be Savannah Bowers, Brooke Donoghue, Gaby Gait-Smith, Katerina Hendrix, Molly Joseph, Jenna Pellizzari, Emily Pierontoni, Emily Smith, Svenja Sommer and Ally Wilson. Nine of the 10 competitors took part in the Live in Lou Classic last week in Kentucky, with seven of the nine setting new personal records in the 5K. Sommer made her South Carolina debut in Louisville, clocking a time of 18:04.2 to become the 18th fastest individual in program history.
