Akli Advances to Singles Consolation Semifinals

Cary, N.C.  – South Carolina women’s tennis senior Ayana Akli has advanced to the semifinals of the main draw consolation at the ITA All-American Championships.

The Silver Spring, Maryland, native took on NC State’s Amelia Rajecki in the quarterfinal round, besting her in straight sets. The Gamecock was consistent throughout, winning her match 6-4, 6-4. She will play against No. 34 Solymar Colling of San Diego in tomorrow’s semifinal match.

In doubles, Akli and partner Sarah Hamner fell to No. 22 Patricija Spaka and Domenika Turkovic of Arizona State. The Gamecocks took the first set 6-4, but the Sun Devils took the second 6-3. The third set was played as a ten-point tiebreaker that went in favor of the duo from Arizona State 10-3.

The All-American Championships will continue in Cary through Oct. 9. Main draw matches will be broadcast on the Cracked Racquets Crosscourt Cast and the Town of Cary will provide live stats and streaming through Playsight.
