Three Gamecocks to Play in Regional Semifinals
Winston-Salem, N.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis advanced three entries to the singles semifinal rounds at the ITA Carolina Regionals on Saturday. The Gamecocks will be represented in the semifinals of the A1 Draw, A2 Draw, and the B1 Draw.
In the A1 Draw, senior Ayana Akli advanced to the semifinals after taking down Charlotte’s Lucie Petruzelova in the Round of 16 and Wake Forest’s Anya Brylin in the quarterfinals. Both matches were lengthy, with three sets needed to decide each of them.
In the A2 Draw, sophomore Sarah Hamner defeated ECU’s Martina Muzzolon in the Round of 16 and Duke’s Elizabeth Coleman in the Quarterfinals to earn her spot in the semis.
In the B1 Draw, freshman Annie Jennings earned her spot in the semis by taking down Presbyterian’s Valentina De Sousa in the Round of 16 and UNC Greensboro’s Juliana Craft in the Quarterfinals.
