Women’s Tennis Set to Host Home Tournament
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis will make their lone home appearance of the fall this weekend for the Gamecock Shootout. The Carolina Tennis Center will welcome players from Washington, SMU, and Marshall for a weekend of round robin action.
Each team will see three singles and three doubles sessions with play beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Gamecocks will start action on Friday at approximately 11:30 a.m. with two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles. Saturday will consist of one round of singles followed by one round of doubles beginning at 9 a.m. and play will conclude for the Gamecocks on Sunday with one round of singles beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Eight Gamecocks will see action this weekend with senior Ayana Akli leading the group with a 12-6 singles record on the season along with a 9-6 doubles record. She is followed by fellow senior Ana Cruz who sits at 8-4 in singles action through the fall slate. Senior Elise Mills went undefeated in singles at the 2021 edition of the Shootout.
Admission to the tournament is free and open to the public. Gates will open one hour prior to the first match of the day. Matchups and final scores will be made available on the tournament webpage.
