Gamecock Equestrian Rounds Out Regular Season at Auburn
AUBURN, AL – The No. 7 South Carolina Equestrian team (5-6, 1-5) wrapped up the regular season on the road at No. 2 Auburn (9-2, 5-1) falling 14-4. The Tigers took Jumping Seat 8-1 with a tie in Fences, and Western 6-3 with a tie in Horsemanship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FLAT
Auburn was dominant in the event, taking the first four points from the Gamecocks. 5th year Trinity Hammerschmidt took the sweep from the Tigers, edging out Mary Grace Seagars in an 82-81 victory on Swag. Hammerschmidt rounds out the regular season 8-3-0 in Fences, with one MOP honor under her belt (vs. Minnesota Crookston, 09/23/22).
FENCES
Despite three Gamecocks scoring 80s or above, the Tigers took things 4-0. Bella Primavera recorded her first tie of the season, notching an 84 on Bebe to match Emma Kurtz.
HORSEMANSHIP
South Carolina put up a fight in the event, with a back and forth battle unfolding throughout. Auburn took the first point, but senior Kiersten Beckner took the next with her 73-71.5 win on DNR against Caroline Fredenburg. After Auburn’s Alexia Tordoff took her point on Mikey, Tierney Horton was able to hold the Tigers off, tying with Maddie Spak with a 74.5 on Victor.
REINING
Auburn nabbed the first two points of the event, but senior Mary Margaret Coats came in swinging, defeating current SEC and NCEA Rider of the Month Alexia Tordoff 70.5-70 on Duke. Coats rounds out the regular season 6-4-0 in Reining. Emilia Reutimann followed suit, edging out Caroline Buchanan 68.5-68.
