COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 3-1 on the week, defeating North Carolina A&T on Tuesday and winning the Clemson series, 2-1.

NOTES:
The Gamecocks won the Clemson series for the second time in three years, winning the final two games by scores of 11-9 and 7-1 after falling 5-2 in Clemson on Friday night.

Carson Hornung had the big hit in Saturday’s win, belting a three-run home run that gave the Gamecocks an 8-7 lead. Cole Messina added insurance in the eighth with a two-run shot in the 11-9 victory.

James Hicks was outstanding on Sunday afternoon, pitching five scoreless innings with six strikeouts and no runs. On the season, Hicks has pitched 14 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits with 14 strikeouts.

Talmadge LeCroy was named the winner of the Tom Price Award, handed out to the Most Valuable Player of the Clemson series. LeCroy was 5-for-10 with six RBI and his first career home run on the weekend.

Carolina now has 32 home runs on the season after hitting four on the weekend. Gavin Casas belted a pair on Sunday and now leads the team with seven round trippers. Ethan Petry, Cole Messina and Will McGillis had five home runs apiece. Messina and Caleb Denny both have 20 RBI to lead the Gamecocks in that category.
