First career weekly honor for the standout French senior

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – To no surprise, senior Mathilde Claisse was named SEC Golfer of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday. She’s fresh off her first career victory at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate last week.

Claisse shot 208 (5) and posted three red numbers with scores of 69-69-70 on the difficult, Pete Dye, par-71 layout at Long Cove Club. She was one of just three in the 90-player field to break par. The Paris, France, native, made 11 birdies and led the tournament in par-3 scoring average (2.75, -3).

She made history at the prestigious event becoming the first Gamecock to win the tournament.

The 2023 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, which annual yields the strongest field of competition in women’s college golf, had 41 players in the field that were ranked in the top-100 of the Golfstat Player Rankings, including four in the top-10. Claisse jumped up to No. 25 with the victory.

The fourth-ranked Gamecocks will be back in action next week at the Cactus Cup (March 13-14), a match play event at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz.
