Gamecocks Throw One Hitter in Run Rule Victory

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team won its seventh straight game Wednesday night (Mar. 8), as the Gamecocks earned a run-rule victory 10-0 over the College of Charleston. Carolina’s record now stands at 21-2 on the season.

Brooke Blankenship led the Gamecocks on the night going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Aniyah Black finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Marissa Gonzalez and Giulia Desiderio also drove in two runs.

Jori Head made her first career start in the circle to earn her fifth win of the season. She allowed one hit in 3 1-3 innings while striking out four. Bailey Betenbaugh came on for the final 1 2-3, striking out two.

South Carolina opened the scoring in the second as Zoe Laneaux leadoff with a walk. Down 0-1 in the count, Black connected on her fourth home run of the season down the left field line.

In the fourth, Black got things started with a single to left. Pinch runner Kyye Ricks stole second and then came around to score on single by Gonzalez. Two outs later, Blankenship hustled around the bases for her first triple of the season, scoring Gonzalez.

The Gamecocks batted around in the fifth, putting the run-rule into effect. Gonzalez got the scoring started with a bases loaded walk. Desiderio followed with a single up the middle, scoring two more runs and Aaliyah White reached on an infield single, scoring Gonzalez. Blankenship capped things off with a two-run single up the middle.

South Carolina returns home to kick off SEC play when it hosts LSU for a three-game series beginning March 11, at 6 p.m. All three games will be televised on the SEC Network.
