Blampied Homers as Gamecocks Drop SEC Opener

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team dropped its SEC opener Saturday night (Mar. 11) to 14th ranked LSU 9-1. The loss puts the Gamecocks as 21-3 on the season.

Riley Blampied scored the lone run for Carolina in the fourth on her fifth home run of the season. Leading off the inning, Blampied ran the count full, before connecting on her 10th career home run into the netting in left field.

The Tigers recorded all the runs they would need in the second, scoring six runs, including a three-run home run. LSU added two more runs in the third and another in the seventh.

South Carolina used four pitchers in the game, as starter Rachel Vaughn took the loss, dropping her record to 2-1 on the season. She allowed four runs on five hits in an inning of work.

The Gamecocks and Tigers resume their SEC series tomorrow, March 12, at 4 p.m.
