Gamecocks Drop Game Two of Series to MSU

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The South Carolina softball team dropped game two of its SEC series at Mississippi State 4-1 Saturday afternoon (Mar. 18). The Gamecocks are now 23-6 and 1-4 in the conference.

The Gamecocks potentially had something going in the third as Marissa Gonzalez looked to have a double to lead off the inning. However, after a replay review, the call was overturned, and Gonzalez called out.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first with a two-run home run in the fourth. They would add two more in the fifth on a triple and a sacrifice fly.

South Carolina scored in the sixth as Brooke Blankenship singled with one out. Then with two outs, Jen Cummings doubled off the wall in right-center, scoring Blankenship from first.

The Gamecocks used four pitchers in the game, as starter Leah Powell took the loss, allowing two runs on two hits in three innings of work.

The series finale will be tomorrow (Sunday) at noon CT.
