Softball Drops Series Finale to Bulldogs
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The South Carolina softball team dropped its SEC series finale to Mississippi State 9-1 in five inning Sunday afternoon (Mar. 19). The Gamecocks are now 23-7 overall on the season and 1-5 in conference play.
Carolina took the lead in the top of the first as Brooke Blankenship singled with one out. A fly out to right moved her to third, before scoring on a single up the middle by Riley Blampied.
Unfortunately for the Gamecocks, that would be the only offense they would get, as they put a runner on base in the second, third, and fourth innings on walks to Jordan Fabian and Zoe Laneaux, and a single by Aniyah Black.
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the first on a three-run home run and an RBI double. They added a solo home run in the third and ended it on a walk-off grand slam in the fifth.
Jori Heard suffered her second loss of the season, falling to 6-2, as she allowed four runs on two hits in 1-3 of an inning.
The Gamecocks return home to face Furman for a doubleheader on March 22 beginning at 3 p.m.
