Gamecocks Drop Game One of Palmetto Series
CLEMSON, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team dropped the first game of the SC Education Lottery Palmetto Series to 5th ranked Clemson Tuesday night (Mar. 28), 10-0 in five innings. Carolina’s record now sits at 24-8 on the season.
The Gamecocks put runners on in three of the first four innings but were unable to move them. Jen Cummings singled in the top of the first, but a double play ended the inning. Marissa Gonzalez was hit by a pitch in the second and in the fourth Cummings drew a leadoff walk.
South Carolina starting pitcher Donnie Gobourne suffered her first loss of the season (5-1), despite limiting the Tiger offense to three runs. In three innings of work, she struck out three while allowing four hits. Clemson broke the game open in the 4th, scoring seven runs on five hits.
The Gamecocks return home to kick off an SEC series against No. 11 Florida beginning March 31 at 6 p.m.
