Gamecocks Fall to 11th Ranked Gators
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team (25-9, 2-6) dropped game two of its SEC series against 11th ranked Florida (26-8, 4-4) Saturday afternoon (Apr. 1) 8-1.
Zoe Laneaux finished her day 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Gamecocks.
The Gators jumped out in front with three runs on back-to-back home runs in the top of the first. They added three more in the fourth.
South Carolina loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with nobody out. Marissa Gonzalez and Jordan Fabian led off with back-to-back singles. Pinch hitter Hannah Hawley loaded the bases with a walk. One out later, Gonzalez scored out Brooke Blankenship’s fielder’s choice, but the Gamecocks were unable to keep the rally going.
Florida added a run in the sixth and seventh innings to mark the final score.
Starting pitcher Jori Heard took the loss to drop her record to 6-3, allowing three runs in 2-3 of an inning.
The rubber game of the series is tomorrow, April 2, at 1 p.m.
