South Carolina Concludes Florida Relays Competition

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (April 1, 2023) – South Carolina concluded its competition in the 2023 Pepsi Florida Relays on Saturday afternoon, posting several regionally ranked marks in the process.

The men competed in nine events today, posting four regional marks. Dylan Targgart led the way with a dominating showing in the men’s shot put. The Michigan native entered the meet with a previous personal best of 19.42m and surpassed that on his final throw when he launched one 19.80m (64-11.5). Targgart finished runner up as his mark ranks second in both the East Region and the NCAA.

Filip Demsar posted a new personal best in the 110-meter hurdles when he ran 13.57 (3.0) to finish seventh in the finals. Demsar’s time was good enough for fourth in the East and eighth best in South Carolina program history. Jack Mensch also climbed the leaderboard into eighth all-time in program history when he posted a time of 1:49.73 in the men’s 800m, setting a new personal best.

The men’s relay teams put in work today as well, with the men’s 4x200m team of Anthony Greenhow, Demsar, Evan Miller and Blair Brooks walking away with the victory following a time of 1:24.81. The 4x400m relay team of Miller, Anthony Richardson, Demsar and Jackson Junkins finished seventh overall but posted the 12th best time in the East when they ran 3:09.16.

The women competed in only five events but made their presence felt. Jayla Jamison led the way with a new personal record in the 100m sprint after stopping the clock at 11.11 (4.1). Her time was good enough for fourth overall, while posting the third best time in the East and in Gamecock history, while ranking fourth in the NCAA.

Silan Ayyildiz and KD Young shined in their respective events as well. Ayyildiz made her Gamecock outdoor 800m and posted the fourth fastest time in Carolina history, 2:07.15. Meanwhile, Young launched the shot put for a season-best distance of 16.13m (52-11) to finish third and rank 10th in the East.

The women’s 4x400m relay team concluded the event for the Gamecock women, running 3:34.81. The quartet of Jahnile Registre, Angel Frank, Sylvia Chelangat and Anastasia Sumpter finished third overall and posted the third best time in the East.

Carolina returns to action on Saturday, April 8 when the Gamecocks host the 2023 Gamecock Invitational at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track.
