COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 3-1 on the week, defeating The Citadel on Tuesday and taking 2-of-3 games at Mississippi State on the weekend.

NOTES:
Braylen Wimmer hit a home run on the very first pitch of the game in back-to-back contests at Mississippi State. It’s the third time this season that a Gamecock started the game with a home run. Will McGillis did the trick at Georgia on March 19. Wimmer has eight home runs this season and now has 99 RBI in his Gamecock career.

Carolina scored seven runs in the top of the ninth inning in the 14-5 win over Mississippi State on Saturday. The Gamecocks have scored seven or more runs in an inning seven times this season. The Gamecocks also scored seven runs in the sixth inning in Tuesday’s win over The Citadel.

Dylan Brewer was an on-base machine in the Mississippi State series, going 5-for-8 at the plate with five walks and a hit by pitch. He scored four runs, had a double and a home run with three RBI and a .786 on-base percentage.

James Hicks picked up a pair of wins in the Mississippi State series to improve to 5-0 on the year. Hicks struck out six in 4.2 innings on the weekend and now has a 1.95 ERA this season.

Ethan Petry had a big three-run double in the eighth inning of Saturday’s 14-5 win over Mississippi State. Petry was 5-for-12 with three runs scored and five RBI in the series as he added a home run in Thursday’s 6-4 win. He leads the team with a .442 batting average and 42 RBI.

Carolina his six home runs on the weekend, upping its season total to 72. Carolina has four players with double digit home runs (Gavin Casas, Ethan Petry, Cole Messina and Will McGillis) with Braylen Wimmer not far behind at eight.
